Fap Turbo Scalper Settings and Why GMT Time is Used as Inputs

by Nathan on May 7, 2010

NOTE: We no longer trade FAPTurbo on our real cash accounts and we do not recommend it. Forex Crescendo is now our top robot that we are using on our large account. We terminated using FAPTurbo before we experienced any severe drawdown, but the trading became so volatile that most people did not trust it anymore. This post has been left as reference material only.
Please Note: The free downloadable FapTurbo User Guide says “ “StartWork” and “EndWork” Setting. During this interval (in broker time) FapTurbo will look for new signals to open positions.”
That statement regarding broker time as opposed to GMT is made in the Long Term Strategy section and relates only to Long Term NOT Scalper Strategy.
Scalper Stategy Settings are discussed below and StartWorkTime and EndWorkTime for Scalper Strategy are GMT.

Fap Turbo’s default settings for its ScalperStrategy mode in v50 have also been tweaked to boost performance.
In the coming weeks we will be live testing and reporting the results each week using several brokers.
The chart below compares the Fap Turbo Scalper Strategy default settings for the EURGBP with the Fap Turbo Expert Guide adjusted settings suggested by Rob Casey.

All times are GMT time Not BROKER time
and probably NOT your time either.

To clarify, I am in Massachusetts so EST (NY time) and daylight savings apply in May.
My broker’s Market Watch clock above the bids/asks shows 22:59.00 and my computer clock set to EST shows 17:59.00 (almost 6 pm) and GMT is 21:59.0 so my broker is GMT +1.

All ScalperStrategy pairs are meant to be traded only in non-volatile time periods.
By defaulting the Start and End to between 20 and 23 GMT (8-11 pm GMT), that translates to between 8-11am
in New Zealand and 4-7pm in NY (during Daylight Savings in both hemispheres). What can be LESS volatile than the first few hours of Kiwi trading in New Zealand when US banks are nearing their close and all other world markets have ended and not yet re-opened? Since the banks relating to the 6 available pairs for Scalper are not even open yet (except for US which are closing), non-volatility for them is reasonably expected.

From the chart above, StartWorkTimeHour of 20 means 8 PM GMT time, 4 PM EST on my Massachusetts clocks and 9PM Broker time are when the first EURGBP trade setups would be sought out–adjusted only by the next field—StartSessionMinute—which with the 30 minute tweaked value means the beginning search for trades gets delayed until 8:30 GMT etc…

EndWorkTimeHour of 23 means Fap Turbo would stop opening new EURGBP positions at 11 PM GMT time, 7 PM my time and midnite Broker, but it gets extended by the 30 minutes shown in EndSessionMinute.
In other words, Fap Turbo ScalperStrategy only is told to open new trades for EURGBP during a 3 hour window. It skips the rest of the later New Zealand session, all of the Asian and European trading and most of NY’s.
Already opened trades will continue to run until the parameters to close them have been met.

Only very tight parameters will be tradeable. On a spread based trade platform set MaxSpread to just 3.5 pips or 3 maximum if commission based. Keep tight profit targets of TP 5 pips although I have seen posts on other threads touting a 3 pip TP but a wider trading window of time. Widening the time window but lowering the profit to ensure more trades but with less profit on each is something we will test out as time moves on.
